Prerequisite Modules:

Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module is one of a new suite of Transferable and Applied Skills modules being developed for delivery within the BA Arts (Professional Pathways) which blends subjects and modules traditionally available on Arts, Humanities and Social Science programmes with modules that respond to the increased demand in the workplace for transferable and applied skills. The module may also be made available to other AHSS programmes. The particular aim of this module is to integrate practice and practitioner based learning into the students' education journey. The module will provide all students with insights from across the range of professional pathways offered on the degree programme to ensure that participants have a wider and more integrated understanding of cognate labour market sectors.

Syllabus:

This module will feature weekly seminars with strategically selected practitioners from each of the four pathways in the degree. From this it is intended that students will gain an insight, not just into their own selected professional pathway, but also into congruent areas of specialism. Contributing practitioners will be asked to cover a range of topics, including leadership styles, communication competencies, problem solving approaches, teamwork and collaboration and the impact of AI. Students will be required to carry out research on each speaker in advance of each seminar and to produce a comprehensive report on one employment sector. They will also be required to complete a review of each seminar and, at the end the semester, produce a synopsis of the seminar series.

Learning Outcomes:

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

This module will consist mainly of weekly seminars with senior personnel from a number of different workplace contexts.
