Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module introduces the students to the real-world practice of public health, as a way to translate the competencies that students have acquired during MSc in Public Health into action to gain professional experience.
Syllabus:
The practicum module is competency-based, planned, supervised, and evaluated practice experience. Four sets of competencies will be provided to students to choose from them based on the previous modules:
1 - Community-based competencies:
- Assess community health status, needs and factors influencing health in a community.
- Collaborate with community partners to improve health in a community.
- Deliver training or educational experiences that promote learning in clinical, academic, conference, organizational, or community settings.
2 - Planning tools and business techniques:
- Perform economic evaluation and analysis.
- Perform policy analysis and write policy briefs.
- Perform SWOT analysis, PESTLE analysis and use other strategic planning tools and business techniques.
- Perform stakeholders mapping and analysis
3 - Planning and Evaluation competencies:
- Plan a public health project, program, or an intervention.
- Evaluate public health strategies, programs, projects, interventions, or services.
- Assess the innovation environment, opportunities, challenges and barriers for public and global health issues.
- Develop a concept proposal for innovative solution integrated with delivery mechanisms that could be easily implemented to improve health.
4 - Digital competencies:
- Create public health multimedia presentation, incorporate sound, graphics, text, animation, and video.
- Create a health website
- Create a health blog
Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Describe how the practicum experience supports the development of the selected competencies.
- Apply curriculum-based skills and knowledge in real world practice.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the ability to work effectively in a public health setting.
- Demonstrate an understanding of professionalism, work standards, and ethics.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the role of public health in improving health and wellbeing.
- Apply both analytical and systemic approaches to problem solving.
- Recognize the importance of communication when approaching public health projects.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and frameworks.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
Students will design their own practicum with the guidance of the faculty members, to achieve a minimum set of competencies with specific outputs. The practicum can take place in an organization (e.g. community, healthcare, international organisations), students' own workplace or remotely. Students will be required to submit a report based on their practicum outputs.
Throughout the module, students will use an e-portfolio to document and reflect on their competencies attainment and their overall experience. Feedback on their learning will be provided and students will be able to track their own personal development throughout the module.
