Syllabus:

The student chooses, in conjunction with a member of faculty, a research topic in the area of Health Informatics, which best suits his or her interests and abilities, keeping in mind the time and resources that are available. The satisfactory completion of the project requires the student to present their own work, and to demonstrate the ability to investigate the chosen topic independently by displaying a mastery of the literature and research relevant to the research topic and ability to analyse and interpret findings of such readings and literature. The dissertation or combined papers produced for the project should be between 20,000 and 25,000 words in length and will be subject to both external and internal examination.

Define a selected research topic. Organise the content of a research proposal. Identify literature relevant to this research area. Interpret and evaluate the research literature relevant to their research topic. Prepare a research proposal for their research project. Iteratively refine their research question(s) in the light of their literature review. Prepare a coherent research methodology to be followed for their project. Perform that research methodology to be followed for their project. Analyse the results obtained in accordance with a recognised research paradigm. Critique the value of the research that they have undertaken. Interpret the research results obtained. Organise these research results in a coherent, logical manner. Summarise the research findings in a written form that adheres to academic and professional standards.
