RESEARCH PROJECT 2
Year Last Offered:
N/A
Hours Per Week:
Grading Type:
N
Prerequisite Modules:
Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This is the second of two research project modules desgined to develop student's research skills. Students will continue developing their research project with specific focus on critical appraisal, data analysis and interpretation and project completion. This module is largely self-directed but will be supported by supervision sessions and/or research tutorials throughout the semester.
Syllabus:
The module will be largely self-directed learning supported by formative tutorials and supervisory sessions where students work closely with the supervisor and other members of their research team to complete their research project. Content includes: Critical appraisal; Data analysis and interpetation, and; Dissemination/presentation of results.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Contextualise and relate research findings to existing knowledge, theories and evidence as appropriate.
Interpret and critique the findings and research process and its limitations in the light of recommended best practice in research.
Complete data analysis and interpretation of findings.
Systematically interpret and organise data related to a specific research question.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Justify the findings and process of the research project.
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Produce a summary of the findings for dissemination purposes to relevant groups using a suitable knowledge translation format.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module will be largely self-directed learning where students will complete their projects. Teaching and learning activities will be provided to facilitate their analysis and write up of their project through problem/enquiry-based tutorials (graduate attributes: curious, agile). Tutorials/online resources will primarily focus on critical appraisal and data analysis. Facilitated learning activities will include group tutorials and/or individual meetings with supervisors with access to online resources to meet their learning needs. Student learning is scaffolded with active self-directed reading (graduate attribute: curious, responsible), and opportunities for peer-to-peer discussion and learning (graduate attributes: articulate, agile). Assessment will include a dissemination output to develop their research writing, reporting and dissemination skills (Graduate Attributes: articulate, agile, responsible).
Research recency will be reflected in the teaching of up-to-date research skills and tools and via the direction of research supervisors to currnet/emerging research content in topic areas.
