Prerequisite Modules:

Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This is the second of three project modules focused on developing research skills. Students will commence and/or continue data collection, data analysis and project write up. This module is M graded with CT6032 - Research Project 3.

Syllabus:

This module will be largely self directed. Students and will work closely with their supervisor and other members of their research team to design and progress their research project. The syllabus will focus specifically on data collection, data analysis, the development of a comprehensive literature review and project write up, with aparticular focus on methodology and results.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module, students will • Critique and incorporate new literature as project progresses. • Organise and conduct data collection • Demonstrate knowledge to analyse the data collected. • Explain interpretation of findings. • Synthesise research activity and process to date. • Illustrate data analysis, critical appraisal and interpretation of findings.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

On successful completion of this module, students will • Demonstrate an appreciation of the need for professional and ethical conduct when working in a research team. • Demonstrate self-awareness by seeking out supervision and support appropriately

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

On successful completion of this module, students will • Collect and systematically organise data related to a specific research question.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

This module is largely self-directed learning supported by supervisory sessions and collaborative peer learning. Students will be exposed to a range of learning activities to facilitate the progression and write up of their project. Facilitated learning activities will include meetings with supervisors, access to online pre-recordings on library, research and writing skills, links to online and library resources and peer to peer learning. Students receive formative guidance through supervision tutorials, reading and peer-learning (graduate attributes: curious, agile). Learning is scaffolded with active self-directed reading (graduate attribute: curious, responsible), and opportunities for peer-to-peer discussion and learning (graduate attributes: articulate, agile). Research recency is reflected in the teaching of up-to-date research skills and tools, resources and via the direction of research supervisors to current/emerging research content in topic areas.
