Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This is the second module in the Professional Practice and Practice Education (PPP) stream of Interprofessional modules for the pre-qualification programmes in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. This module integrates theory, evidence and practice education experience through inter-professional engagement in complex scenarios in area of multidisciplinary. The total scheduled hours are 80 over 6 weeks. Preparation for Practice Education (PPP1) module will be a prerequisite.

Syllabus:

Health conditions that require multidisciplinary input. Including pathology, recovery and interventions including, personal and environmental factors and contemporary mutidisciplinary health and social care practices

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

Evaluate the scope of practice within and across professions when working within complex scenarios. Demonstrate clinical reasoning through integrating theory and practice knowledge to deliver best practice in complex scenarios. Discuss innovative solutions to complex scenarios that present in contemporary healthcare, community and educational settings using an evidence based approach. Respond to current pragmatic and political issues that may impact upon decision making and service delivery.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

Explain awareness of the non-clinical determinants of health including social, political, economic, environmental and gender disparities. Demonstrate effective collaboration within an inter-professional team to support people with complex needs at different stages of the therapeutic process.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

This module will use an experimental based learning model that centres on patient case studies. Each case study will address the relevant domains of body structures and functions, activity limitations, participation restrictions, personal and environmental factors and the specific therapy skills neede to manage these complex multidisciplinary cases. Students will have a range of blended learning experiences including face to face and online content, staff and self directed learning and group and individual work.
