Prerequisite Modules:
Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module builds on the Semester 1 topic "Dietetic Assessment and Practice" and provides further theory and skill development in individual dietetic case management in a range of clinical conditions including but not limited to obesity, diabetes and other endocrinological disorders, cardiovascular disease, medicine for the elderly, malnutrition, refeeding syndrome, gastrointestinal diseases and disorders and renal disease. Pregnancy and paediatric medicine will also be explored. Students will gain expertise and knowledge in the pathophysiology, medical management, cultural, social and psychological factors that influence dietary prescriptions in these conditions. Students will apply and translate theory into dietetic practice assessment, intervention and management that encompasses the nutrition care plan using case studies and simulated learning experiences. This forms the foundation of safe and effective clinical nutrition and dietetic practice and prepares the student for clinical placement.
