Prerequisite Modules:

Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The objective of this module is to extend students dance technique, skills, repertoire, body awareness and dance experience through intensive master classes with dance tutors and choreographers selected by the course director. This will involve learning new choreographic material (solo and ensemble) and choreographing new work from an Irish traditional dance perspective with the support and assistance of mentors; reflective practice is encouraged throughout the creative process. This module is essential for the successful realisation of the final performance presentation.

Syllabus:

The syllabus is structured to facilitate the extension of students' conceptual and practical knowledge, skill, repertoire and dance experience: practical dance technique and body awareness classes; practical ensemble dance classes in order to both collaborate as part of an ensemble and to physically learn new choreographic works choreographed by invited choreographers; and practical solo dance classes and tutorials with mentors to assist in the conceptual and physical realisation of students' own choreographic works.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

1.Synthesise conceptual, theoretical and practical knowledge acquired throughout the programme.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

1.Demonstrate a competence to communicate and collaborate with dancers, tutors and choreographers. 2.Value the benefits of reflective practice in oneÆs choreographic work. 3.Embrace constructive criticism.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

1. Demonstrate an ability to choreograph and to explore within the confines of Irish traditional dance performance practice. 2. Display a competence to both work and perform with others, and to design, manage, rehearse and perform a self-directed choreo

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

With its emphasis on choreography and performance, this module will be taught for the most part in a dance studio. Solo and ensemble work will be choreographed, learned and rehearsed within this module. Dance tutors and choreographers will work on ensemble works with the students, while mentors will work with students to support and to constructively critique studentsÆ own choreographies. The module is supported by dance concerts and seminars to extend students critical appreciation and engagement with dance.

Research Findings Incorporated in to the Syllabus (If Relevant):

Dance tutors, choreographers and lecturers incorporate their research into their workshops and seminars as part of the syllabus.
