Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The Residential Academy is the capstone to the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics and Public Policy. The aim of the module is for students to synthesize the concepts covered in the previous modules and apply them to real-world problems. The Residential Academy is also an opportunity for students to re-connect at the conclusion of the programme and to reflect on their personal and intellectual journey. Finally, at the Residential Academy, students will plan for the future in terms of intellectual development and careers.

Syllabus:

1. Assessed presentations on pre-assigned topics arising from the previous modules. 2. Guest lectures from faculty, adjunct faculty and invited speakers. 3. Career workshops related to the economics profession and professional development. 4. Sessions for the students to reflect on their intellectual and personal journey through the Diploma.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: 1. synthesize knowledge from the previous modules, applying the learning to real world scenarios. 2. apply models, data, and frameworks to new problems and scenarios. 3. synthesise strands of economic learning.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate appreciation of the importance of completing tasks as a group. 2. reflect on their personal and intellectual journey over the course of the program.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Over several days at the end of second semester, the Residential Academy will take place in-person on campus at the Kemmy Business School in our dedicated economics teaching room, an active learning classroom whereby the space has been configured to maximise collaborative learning. Students will actively participate in and contribute to presentations and workshops.
