Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

To engage the student in research on a topic related to the guidance counselling profession, while considering the implications for and application to the work of guidance counsellors. With the support of an assigned research supervisor, the focus will be on developing their dissertation.

Syllabus:

Students will embark on a critical research inquiry within the guidance counselling field. With the support of an assigned research supervisor, the focus will be on developing their dissertation.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: Critique the political and theoretical perspectives in relation to evidence-based research in the field of guidance counselling. Discriminate between complex theoretical paradigms in the discipline of guidance counselling research and closely related discipline areas. Demonstrate ability to source and evaluate a broad range of relevant literature through different sources such as textbooks, academic journals and online databases. Select and apply appropriate methodologies in the design and execution of a research project. Synthesise ideas and concepts in order to generate new approaches or models for practice arising from their research project.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: Display a reflexive understanding and commitment to ethical research practice as a practitioner - researcher.
