Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module aims to facilitate students during their process of researching and writing their masters dissertation. Under supervision (online), students will frame and implement their research plan; they will hone their analytical skills and begin to develop expertise in the research field through a critical review of the scholarly literature on their chosen theme. They will also deepen their research skills by engaging with the theoretical foundations of educational and leadership research in tandem with conducting their fieldwork Educational Leadership Dissertation 1 is M Graded with Educational Leadership Dissertation 2.

Syllabus:

Critical reviewing of literature; theoretical foundations of research; conceptual and theoretical frameworks; data analysis; academic writing.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

Students will: • Deepen their critical thinking during the practice of reviewing relevant scholarly literature. • Deepen their analysis of research paradigms and their application to varied research approaches. • Understand the importance of conceptual and theoretical framework and apply them to their research endeavours.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

Students will: • Appreciate the importance of scholarly dispositions as researchers.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

Undertake data collection and initial analysis.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Students will work under the supervision of a master's supervisor. Supervision will occur on a one to one basis online via UL's chosen learning-management system SULIS Flexibility is a core aim of this online delivery. Some asynchronous podcasts will also be provided to motivate and deepen the scholarly thinking during the research process. A discussion forum will also be moderated which will bring students together for shared conversations and support and will be facilitated by an online moderator.
