Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
To allow students to combine previously covered course material with their individual interests in order to research an environmentally/chemistry related topic.
To develop the ability of students to present in an oral and written format.
To facilitate and develop students ability to work on their own.
Syllabus:
This is a project base module which is undertaken over 2 semesters. Projects, which have relevance to environmental science, are undertaken normally on an individual basis. An academic member is responsible for the overall direction of the project and acts as a supervisor for the student.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
To use research literature and other resources to investigate various topics associated with a chosen research project
Demonstrate an appreciation of Research Ethics in research practices (proper record keeping, citation, avoiding plagiarism etc)
Identify and gather relevant information/data related to the research topic
Analyse and evaluate this information in an appropriate manner
Demonstrate the ability to develop solutions to issues related to the project.
Demonstrate communication skills (both oral and written).
Recognise the importance of safety where appropriate
