Dírítear sa mhodúl seo ar scileanna cumarsáide agus dioscúrsúla agus scileanna chur i láthair Gaeilge na mac léinn a fhairsingiú. Ullmhófar na mic léinn chun réimeanna teanga éagsúla a aithint agus a úsáid. Bainfidh an plé ar chomhthéacsanna foirmeálta le hócáidí oifigiúla agus le searmanais éagsúla & díreofar ar an teanga chomhairleach a úsáideann fostóirí agus fosaithe sa chomhthéasc gairmiúil chomh maith. Bainfidh réimeanna teanga neamhfhoirmeálta ansin leis an gcineál teanga a úsáidtear i ngréasáin shoisialta le cairde. Cuirfear go mór le scileanna teanga ginearálta na mac léinn sa tslí is go mbeidh sé/sí in ann páirt lárnach a ghlacadh in imeachtaí Gaelacha san ionad oibre agus lasmuigh de. [Translation for internal use only] This course will broaden students' communication, discursive and articulation skills in Irish. The students will be prepared to identify and use a range of language registers. Formal contexts will relate to official and ceremonial occasions and consultative language such as that used in professional contexts between employer/employee will also be considered. More casual informal registers will relate to the language registers used in social circles with friends. The students' general language skills will be developed and reinforced enabling them to actively participate in Irish language events in the workplace and beyond

Réimeanna agus dioscúrsaí éagsula sa chomhthéacs gairmiúil: cur i láthair; bronnadh céimeanna; ag cur fáilte roimh chuairteoirí; ag cur aíonna i láthair; óráid a thabhairt sa suíomh oibre; taispeántas a oscailt, moltóireacht ag cómórtas; leabhrán eolais a phleanáil agus a leagan amach, seoladh leabhar; cur i láthair acadúil; agus ócáidí eile. Réimeanna agus dioscúrsaí éagsula lasmuigh den suíomh oibre: oráidí & díospóireachtaí poiblí; fóraim; brúghrúpaí; coistí; litreacha agus altanna irise/nuachtáin; ag scríobh preasráiteas; ag fáil urraíochta agus maoinithe; féilte; na meáin shóisialta; scileanna fhear/bhean an tí. Pléifear le cúrsaí reatha mar théama ginearálta le linn an chúrsa chomh maith. [TRANSLATION FOR INTERNAL PURPOSES ONLY] Registers and discourse variations in the workplace - presentations; formal ceremonies; welcoming visitors; introducing speakers; giving speeches at work; opening exhibitions, judging competitions; guides/information booklets; book launches, academic presentations; and other such occasions. Registers and discourse variations beyond the workplace - public speaking & debates; forums; pressure groups; committees; correspondence to newspapers / web forums; writing newspaper/magazine articles; writing press releases; getting sponsorship and funding; festival work; social media; master of ceremonies skills. Current affairs will be explored in Irish throughout the course.

[Translation for internal use only] On successful completion of this module, the students will be able to: explore a range of written texts (articles, reports, blogs etc) relating directly or indirectly to the themes of the module and other themes of special and personal interest; evaluate material on a specialist topic from a range of resources and organise content in the format of an information booklet/guide for a specific target audience; plan and present an objective speech/oration in order to demonstrate appropriate use of language register at a formal occasion; and exploit a rang of listening texts (speeches, radio/tv programmes; guest talks, songs, etc.) relating directly or indirectly to the themes of the module and other themes of special and personal interest.

[Translation for internal use only] On successful completion of this module, the students will be able to: show an appreciation of the importance of collaboration and interactions with other learners and language users in learning a language.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Múinfear an dianchúrsa Gaeilge ag ceardlanna idirghníomhacha leis an mbéim ar an gcomhfhoghlaim le piaraí. Cuirfear pacáiste teagaisc agus foghlama ar fáil mar lámhleabhar do na teagascóirí agus do na mic léinn. Beidh míreanna nuachta, ábhar ó irisí, ón raidió agus ón teilifís, ábhar fógraíochta; ábhar ón ngréasán agus ó na meáin shóisialta san acmhainn sin. Díreofar i ngníomhaíochtaí an mhodúil ar an gcaighdeán teanga B2 (CEFR) toisc go bhfuil an bunchaighdeán seo mar réamhriachtanas chun a bheith ar an liosta earcaíochta Gaeilge san earnáil phoiblí in Éirinn. Tabharfar aird ar straitéis na hOllscoile maidir leis an deachleachtas sa teagasc, san fhoghlaim agus sa mheasúnú. Beidh cur chuige foghlama fadhb-bhunaithe i gceist sna gníomhaíochtaí a bhaineann leis an leabhrán eolais ar shainábhar a dhearadh. Cuirfear acmhainní tacaíochta eile ar fáil ar BrightSpace. Is ar BrightSpace a sholáthrófar aiseolas ar an dul chun cinn a dhéanann mic léinn. Molfar do mhic léinn gach deis a thapú chun páirt a ghlacadh i dtograí a bhaineann leis an nGaeilge lasmuigh den tseomra ranga chomh maith. Díreofar ar ghníomhaíochtaí teagaisc agus foghlama a chur in oiriúint don soláthar cianfhoghlama mar chuid den bhundearadh ábhar. [Translation for internal use only] Key generic and transferable skills in this module are using appropriate language register; cultural awareness; oral and written communication; document use; working with others; project management skills; and continuous learning. These are core competencies and skills that will be of use to students in their future professional and personal lives. This intensive Irish language course will be taught through a workshop format which will emphasize opportunities for learning in collaboration with peers. A teaching and learning resource pack, at B2 (CEFR) standard will be made available to teaching staff and students. This is the language standard needed to meet the Irish language requirement of the Public Service. Resources will include materials from magazines and journals, promotional literature; websites, social media; news items, radio and television. The approach to teaching, learning and assessment is informed by Institutional strategy at UL. A problem-based learning approach will be used to explore some of the topics. Formative and summative feedback will be provided using BrightSpace tools. Engagement with initiatives relating to Irish beyond the classroom will be strongly encouraged. In the materials design stage before the launch of the MicroCred, consideration will be given to the adaptation of face-to-face T&L activities for delivery by distance also. The curriculum design of this module fulfils the UL Graduate Attributes as follows:   • Curious: learners will be problem-solvers and willing to explore with others how best to apply their newly acquired knowledge in the professional context • Agile: learners will be open-minded and responsive to new ideas and approaches to applying their new knowledge and skills beyond the classroom. • Responsible: learners will be aware of the cultural dimension to language and will work to create environments that value linguistic and cultural diversity.   • Articulate: learners on this MicroCredential will develop written and oral skills through active engagement in group discussions, presentations, engagement with research literature and case-studies.
