Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module will provide students with a fundamental understanding of blue light response theory, responsibilities, and the law. A C1 learner permit is an entry requirement to BSc. Paramedic Studies. A full category C1 licence is required to facilitate participation in the year 2 modules. To successfully complete this module, the student must be in possession of a full category C1 licence.

Syllabus:

A C1 learner permit is an entry requirement to the BSc Paramedic Studies. This module affords the student the opportunity to acquire a full category C1 licence prior to the end of the first academic year. Students will participate in workshops and lectures on Blue light response theory and driving etiquette.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Explain current legislation pertaining to emergency services driving standards. Discuss the rules of the road with specific emphasis on emergency driving exemptions. Describe the principles of transporting patients and maintaining care whilst in transit. Consider safety measures related to providing care in a moving vehicle

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Acknowledge special considerations when transporting vulnerable populations

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Demonstrate competence in driving a C1 class vehicle.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Students will participate in the learning environment by engaging with a combination of small group teaching and lectures. Discussion and collaborative activities through problem-based learning encourage inter and intrapersonal skills development and nurture the development of articulate graduates (Articulate). Problem based learning requires the learner to employ a variety of methods to problem solve and acquire knowledge (Agile and Curious). The student is required to take an active role in their own learning, by taking the necessary steps to acquire a full category C1 licence (Responsible).
