Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module will provide students with an orientation to the discipline of Paramedic care and the core skills necessary for providing safe and effective care within that discipline. Two weeks of clinical placement is provided to enable exposure at observer level.
Syllabus:
Theory included in the module to date will be applied in this setting, in addition to the necessary core fundamental paramedic skills of Manual Handling, Community First Response Advanced (CFRA) , Infection Prevention and Control and reflective practice. A minimum of two weeks on a regulator approved placement will be provided.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Identify individual learning opportunities on clinical placement
Describe the knowledge and paramedic skills required to implement safe and effective care at observer level.
Reflect on their experiences during clinical placement.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an appreciation of professional behaviours in practice as advised by the Prehospital Emergency Care Council
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Demonstrate safe and effective practice in a simulated environment
Apply the principles of safe manual handling, Community First Responder-Advanced (CFRA) and Infection prevention and control training.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The student will complete 2 weeks of observational clinical placement and undertake competency assessment of skills in a simulated environment. Placement will be scaffolded by manual handling, Community First Response Advanced (CFRA) and infection prevention and control training and workshops. Reflective practice element of this module is taught using a combination of lectures and group challenge/problem-based learning, self-directed study and guided reading. Discussion and collaborative activities through problem-based learning encourage inter and intrapersonal skills development and nurture the development of articulate graduates (Articulate). Problem based learning requires the learner to employ a variety of methods to problem solve and acquire knowledge (Agile and Curious). The clinical placement will expose the student to variety of skills and provide an opportunity for observation and practice (Responsible and Courageous) An active and student-centered approach to learning is key to this module.
