Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module requires the student to attend a block of ambulance and hospital placements at observer participant level. Students will identify and document learning opportunities and reflect on their experiences. This module aligns with regulator guidelines, which require the student to integrate theory into practice. Prior to attending a block of placements, students will participate in skills workshops. These workshops provide students with the opportunity to observe and gradually participate in clinical care under direct supervision and receive feedback on their clinical practice. Students will complete 16 weeks of clinical placement as required by the regulator (Prehospital Emergency Care Council). On successful completion of this module, the student will be registered at the level of 'postgraduate intern' on the PHECC register This module is M graded to the summer semester to facilitate the registration timelines.

Syllabus:

Students will attend placements to include, emergency, non-emergency ambulance services, acute hospital services including, but not limited to, emergency department, maternity services, coronary and intensive care units, theatre, mental health placements. Students will be mentored and supervised. Students will reflect on their experiences on placement.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Exploit learning opportunities encountered on clinical placement. Relate patient assessment and findings to the appropriate clinical guidelines and management.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Reflect on their practice using structured models of reflection. Demonstrate cultural awareness in the workplace.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Observe and provide patient care under direct supervision.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

This module combines small group teaching and supervised clinical placements to enable the student to develop problem solving skills and apply theoretical knowledge to patient care (Curious and Agile). The learning experience will ensure that the student is exposed to a variety of skills and provide an opportunity for observation and practice (Responsible and Courageous).All elements of this module adhere to the pre-registration requirements of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC).
