Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

To demonstrate the ability to conduct a research project to the level of a Masters standard dissertation of not less than 20,000 words in the area of public history or cultural heritage.

Syllabus:

A final thesis submission, offered by the student as the culmination of her / his work during the course of the programme. The thesis is produced in consultation with a dedicated supervisor.

Synthesise learning from core, specialist practical and theoretical modules on public history and cultural heritage. Generate new work grounded in the traditions and contexts of specific practices peculiar to public history and/or cultural heritage and the relevant theoretical fields. Critique and evaluate work within the context of specified theories and practices.

Value the different practices / traditions and approaches with regard to the production, presentation and consumption of history and cultural heritage.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

The learning experience will involve the research and writing of an independent and original dissertation of not less than 20,000 words which will be produced in collaboration with a supervisor, and with a range of archival and historical institutions.
