Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The purpose of this module is to build upon the learning, writing and research experiences of students in modules undertaken in the autumn semester, to identify a subject research area and actively engage with primary sources, to critically assess these sources, to identify where each student's research topic would best augment the existing literature, and to guide each student toward the completion of a dissertation.
Syllabus:
The student will develop and produce a dissertation.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Identify a research area and formulate a coherent discussion of that theme;
Actively engage with and interpret primary sources;
Demonstrate skills in historical research;
Demonstrate skills in coherent writing;
Assess historical sources;
Produce a dissertation.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module is organised on one to one supervision and student centred-learning. Students acquire important analytical and recognition skills, and develop a capacity for critical thinking through independent research.
