Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The KBS is establishing a Visiting International Professor (VIP) programme that will see a number of faculty from KBS partners invited to deliver one week intensive modules on a number of KBS Masters programmes. The establishment of a VIP programme is a strategic priority for the KBS, particularly in relation to maintaining our EQUIS accreditation. The Visiting International Professor (VIP) programme was an explicit recommendation of an EQUIS accreditation peer review team. The VIP programme will also incorporate a focus on building research collaboration with visiting professors who will give a research seminar to faculty during their visit and meet with relevant faculty and PhD students in their research area.
This module is being created as a placeholder module that will allow a module to be taught by a visiting professor across a range of Masters programmes that offer the VIP module. Each VIP module will have a one week duration involving 24 contact hours from Monday to Friday with assessment taking place in the same week. The KBS will advertise the opportunity to visit the KBS to teach a module to its partner network approximately a year in advance and invite applications. A committee consisting of the KBS ADI, ADPG, ADR and relevant Course Directors will then review all applications and issue invitations to visiting professors. The selection process will consider the relevance of the proposed class to the KBS programmes, the contemporaneity of the issues and topics being addressed, the suitability of the assessment structure, and the alignment of the class learning outcomes to the programme learning outcomes and the KBS mission and values.
Syllabus:
The syllabus taught in any given year will depend on the modules chosen for the VIP programme. A common theme to all syllabi is that focus will be placed on the dynamics underlying a contemporary global issue in the finance, insurance, and/or risk domain. The contemporary global issue will be addressed using appropriate theoretical principles and applied tools in finance, insurance, and/or risk. A different visiting professor will be invited to teach each module after their proposed module content and assessment has been reviewed by a KBS Committee.
