Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This is the second of the two Irish World Academy modules for the FYP. The student works in a one on one context with supervisor in this module while receiving certain skills training to enable them to fill out the structure of the FYP developed the previous semester.The purpose of the module is to provide a framework in which the supervisor can offer encouragement and feedback to the student, as well as continuous guidance with the writing process.

Syllabus:

In this module students will work with their supervisor to draft full chapters of their project and generate a piece of academic writing with the appropriate style and structure. Students will receive particular guidance on academic writing style as well as generating a coherent, in depth and complete argument to serve their research question.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

On successful completion of this module students should be able to: * Present themes and arguments within the introduction of the FYP. * Express ideas in clear and elegant prose. * Construct a coherent argument. * Compose chapters replete with insight and cogently expressed ideas. * Modify and reorganise written text as necessary. * Synthesise information and ideas within the conclusion of the FYP.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

* in their FYP submission students will acknowledge the relevance of shier FYP upon themselves and the communities of practice they are engaging in their research. * Students will embrace the ethical values of the FYP process, protecting informants wherever possible.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Students will, in this module, learn do develop skills and an individual, socially and artistically relevant and responsible researcher. This module will encourage students to engage mentoring processes where staff will draw students to contemporary research and methodologies that will inform and art iculate their FYP. As such this module will embody many of the core graduate attributes of the University, in particular in it's 'knowledgable', 'articlaute', 'creative' and 'responsible' headings.
