Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
Module description:
This module will provide a conceptual basis for dance as an education tool. It will be interrogating and extending students' knowledge and understanding of the content, methodologies and assessment procedures relevant to the teaching and learning in dance in a variety of teaching contexts. It will equip students with the skills to design and implement material for Dance Pedagogy and to engage in critical debate on the nature and principles of dance in both formal and informal educational contexts.
Syllabus:
Students will develop their knowledge and competency of best practice in Dance education including dance aesthetics, creativity and child/student centered pedagogy.

• Apply knowledge and understanding of different dance education contexts.
• Demonstrate awareness and ability to utilize best practice surrounding child-centred pedagogy and student led engagement through dance.
• Show an awareness of learner differences, including different learning styles and Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences
• Engage in debate on the current thinking in dance in education.

The module will be taught in practical studio based workshops ,lectures, seminars and case study research.
