Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
To critically engage postgraduate students in advanced thinking and debates surrounding current ethnochoreological issues. These include issues relating to dance and identity; dance and gender; dance and nationalism; dance, colonialism and postcolonial theory; dance and issues of embodiment; dance and intangible cultural heritage; dance and globalisation; dance and tourism; dance and multiculturalism.
Syllabus:
Students will critically read and engage with selected journal articles, book chapters, and books relating to current ethnochoreological issues. They will present and discuss the material in class and will write a 5,000 word essay based on one of the themes examined in the module.

1. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of theoretical concepts and themes relating to ethnochoreological discourse
2. Critique and evaluate a knowledge of the relevant literature
3.Illustrate a competence in applying relevant concepts to the production of original academic work.

1. Illustrate how dance as performance can inform theory.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module is taught through advanced seminars, lectures and tutorials. Students will also have access to video and live performances. Guest presenters together with the course director will engage students in recent scholarship and research in the field of ethnochoreology.
