Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The purpose of this module is to encourage and facilitate postgraduate students to engage with a community of scholars and practitioners presenting their respective work, from a variety of disciplinary and performance practice perspectives, in a formal, large-scale and medium-scale colloquium/seminar context, drawing from in-house seminars including the Tower Seminar, Logos, and other seminars. Students will expand their knowledge from within and outside of their own specialisations, and will tacitly learn about presenting their own work in such a format.

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

To expose students to a wide variety of theoretical and practical approaches to presenting work in a formal seminar context. To develop skills in processing information and formulating questions as part of critical engagement in a seminar presentation context To create an understanding of the manner in which public seminars fulfill and critical and pedagogical role in the academic and broader, public communities To expose students to the research activities of staff and visiting speakers/performers

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

To create a culture of critical engagement in writing and performance amongst the full cohort of postgraduate students, promoting an active research community and a sense of shared goals in the acquisition and transfer of knowledge

The module is not directly taught but rather experienced through active engagement with the seminar series on a regular basis throughout term (five seminars per semester).
