Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module develops the instrumental skills of the songwriter appropriate to their songwriting and performance practices.
Syllabus:
Songwriters develop instrumental skills that enhance the creative process of songwriting, improve their ability to accompany themselves or other performers in the performance of their songs, and develop their ability to demonstrate their creative ideas with a musical instrument.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
Demonstrate proficiency in appropriate accompanying instrument to support individual songwriting practice.
Choose arrangements of repertoire on chosen instrument effectively.
Critique contemporary and personal practice in popular song accompaniment.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
Synthesise appropriate styles in song accompaniment.
Integrate diverse styles into individual practice as appropriate.
Co-operate effectively with tutors in critical development of performance practice.
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
Develop embodied technical skills on relevant instrument(s) required to support songwriting practice.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module is taught through weekly one-on-one tutorials on relevant instrument(s). In addition to attendance at tutorials, students commit to a personal rehearsal schedule to improve technical skills to the required level. On completion of this module, students will have developed their musicianship and their ability to employ musical instruments in support of both their songwriting practice and the performance of their songs.
