Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The Inter-Arts Music Making module introduces students to collaborative, inter-arts music making, with the aim of developing interdisciplinary creative practices, working with artists in diverse art forms, such as theatre, dance, performance art and visual media.
Syllabus:
The Inter-Arts Music Making module introduces students to collaborative, inter-arts music making practices. Collaborating with professional artists working in diverse art forms, such as theatre, dance, performance art and visual media, students study interdisciplinary, collaborative artistic practices and strategies, and study and engage in co-creation and co-devising of artistic works.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
Develop strategies to explore and reflect upon a variety of inter-arts processes and practices. Engage creatively with, and deepen their knowledge and understanding of, a range of art forms and styles. Develop skills in teamwork and collaborative practices through co-creation of artistic works. Learn to synthesise and apply learning towards the development a professional body of original work suitable for publication, performance and recording.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
Develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of other forms of artistic practice. Cultivate respect for, and negotiate the differences between, different artistic practices, artistic values and artistic aims. Practice communication skills, expand arts practice vocabulary and develop knowledge of a diverse range of artistic concepts. Engage in collaborative artistic practice with fellow students, mentors and professional artists.
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
Develop psychomotor skills appropriate to instrumental and vocal music performance and movement-based artistic practices including theatre, dance and Performance Art.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module is taught through a combination of weekly group workshops, practice-based seminars and lectures. Through engagement with a wide range of professional artists and scholars working in diverse art forms, such as theatre, dance, performance art and visual media, students work collaboratively to create a portfolio of work and build important relationships with professional artists. UL Graduate attributes are core to the ethos of this module, developing creative practices through the development of embodied knowledge. Students learn to cultivate and articulate responsible styles of performance in diverse idioms.
