FLUID PROCESS CONTROL
Year Last Offered:
2025/6
Hours Per Week:
Grading Type:
N
Prerequisite Modules:
Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
To provide the student with a very good knowledge of advanced process control with emphasis on fluid & thermal processes.
Syllabus:
Advanced Control Strategies
Control of Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) Processes
Development of Discrete-time Models
Dynamic Response of Discrete-Time systems
Analysis of Sampled-Data systems
Design of Digital Controllers
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
1. Given an open loop response of a system find its transfer function
2. Given a transfer function of a process derive its response in time domain.
3. Design a closed-loop controller for an industrial process application
4. Given a model of a multi-input, multi-output industrial process simulate the open loop response of the system, and design suitable closed loop feedback controllers
5. Given the relationship between classical feedback controller and IMC controller derive controller setting for first and second order systems.
6. Given an industrial fluid process system, derive an expression for Relative Gain Array, and design ideal decoupling control system
