Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

The module will ensure that the student has engaged in research associated with the development of their equipment systems engineering project. The module will examine the progress of research carried out to date. This module will provide an opportunity for the apprentice to organise and codify the extent of progress on their research project at the end of year 1 of the programme. A determination will be made by a course director and team that sufficient and stage appropriate progress has been achieved to date based on this module.

Syllabus:

Through self-directed learning and research as part of the apprenticeship programme, the student will produce a substantial document detailing the development of the research project(s) at this point. It is expected that the student will incorporate the knowledge gained from the previous modules to inform and their research the submission. The student will be required to present their work to their peers in a discussion group and to a review panel.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: 1. Define research impacts and their effect on a profession. 2. Communicate in the written word and orally 3. Develop networks of researchers in their profession 4. Interact in group sessions

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of: 1. their enhanced awareness of personal value systems that may impact on the ability and competency of the practitioner to perform their work to the highest professional standards. 2. the value of research ethics and integrity in a researcher 3. respect and acceptance of the culture and differences of a network of industries, professions, researchers or a cohort of research participants.

The module evaluates the submission of the research work after Year 1, and will, serve as the progression process for the cohort. It has thus no formal teaching.
