Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is desgined to introduce the concept of the communication process and develop skills in questioning, active listening, making effective presentations also writing & utilising information technology as an aid to effective communication. Develop detailed understanding of both verbal and non-verbal communication also the horizontal and vertical linkages of communication within the organisation. Understand the implications of current legislation regarding the communication process.
Syllabus:
Syllabus includes - Communication barriers, Personal and Team based communication, Development of Questioning, Active Listening and Assertiveness skills, Dynamics, Construction & Delivery of Effective communication, Sources & Construction of Written communication and Information Technology and communication.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
Understand the regulatory environment influencing organisational communication. Develop detailed understanding of personal, team and organisatioal communication processess. Understand the nature and significance of both horizontal and vertical communication linkages.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
Prepare, practise and conduct an effective presentation. Embrace key active listening skills and demostrate personal communication techniques.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module will be taught in both interactive workshop based format and by distance Learning. While based on essential academic theories, concepts and techniques ther willa also be significant focus afforded to individual personal development allied with the pratical application of learning within the workplace.
