Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
A forecasting and scheduling module for procurement practitioners is essential as it provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize the procurement process, reduce costs, mitigate risks, and make informed decisions. Accurate forecasting and efficient scheduling are critical components of procurement, and by completing the module, practitioners can gain expertise in analyzing procurement data, identifying appropriate forecasting and scheduling techniques, and improving their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address procurement challenges. Ultimately, the module enables procurement practitioners to make strategic decisions that align with organizational goals and objectives
Syllabus:
Introduce and define MRP. Explode Bills of Material (BOM) and perform MRP calculations. Manage the priority plan. Introduce Capacity Management and focus especially on the supply-side counterpart of MRP: CRP. Identify purchasing participants and explore the purchasing process.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and best practices of forecasting and scheduling in procurement.
2. Develop the ability to analyse procurement data to create accurate forecasts and schedules.
3. Identify and implement appropriate forecasting and scheduling techniques and tools.
4. Explain how to evaluate and improve the accuracy and effectiveness of procurement forecasts and schedules.
5. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address procurement challenges.
6. Describe the role and operation of MRP and MPS in operational planning. Explode an end-item BOM to identify gross requirements and calculate how to fulfil orders based on end-item due dates. Manage the priority plan as requirements change.

Learners will attend on-line lectures over consecutive weeks. Off-campus study is supported with guided reading and online content on the University's VLE. While based on essential academic theories, concepts, and techniques, there will also be significant focus afforded to individual personal development coupled with the practical application of learning within the workplace.
