Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
To understand and apply the need techniques of project management to an organisational problem
To define the objectives of the course project and agree the scope of the project with the sponsor from the host organisation.
To comprehand and apply the proejct planning cycle and other planning techniques to an action based project
Syllabus:
Operational Management V Project management
The Project Management Process; Project Life Cycle, Roles of the Project Manager, Sponsor, Stakeholders and Team members
Project planning techniques; brainstorming, taskboarding, work breakdown structure, Gantt chart, critical path anlysis, risk assessment matrix, capital appraisal techniques

- To comprehend the process of project mangement and how it differs from operational
management
- To apply project planning techniques to the implementation of a work based project
- To conduct stakeholder analysis when carring out a project
- To prepare and present an oral and written presentation of the final project report

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The main learning process for this module will be the planning and implementation of an action based project within the participants organisation. Early in the module a series of short workshops will be held to assist participants in the application of project planning techniqeus aimed at scoping the project and developing a project outline to be agreed with the sponsor. Throughout the two semesters ongoing workshops will be held to assist participants as they progess through the four stages of the project lifecycle.
