Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module is designed to enable students to develop and demonstrate ability to complete an independent piece of research. The project provides students the opportunity to apply management and organisational theories to an action based research project within their own organisation. Also it allows students to develop research skills in developing project proposal, gathering information / data, analysing such information / data and addressing an organisation based management problem within their own organisation.

Syllabus:

Completion of interim report on the scope of the project; Literature Review and Methodology including a risk assessment, critical path analysis, Gantt Chart and Cost Benefit Analysis; Oral Presentation of the Final Report which is assessed for communication skills; Presentation of the written report including executive summary.

Learning Outcomes:

Develop a project report in a area of relevance to their work. Formulate a valid research question(s) to examine specific management problem. Construct and implement a realistic project research timeframe. Review relevant literature within their project subject area. Develop research methods to investigate subject area. Analyse collected information / data using appropriate techniques. Provide specific recommendations and actions.
