Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is designed to develop an understanding of how the performance and effectiveness of an organisation can be assessed, with a view to finding ways of improving overall performance and effectiveness. The module explores ways of assessing organisational performance and effectiveness, and examines the benefits to be offered by the learning organisation, total quality management and business process re-engineering. The importance of developing effective managers is addressed by examining best practices in management education, training and development. A strong focus is given to the establishment of criteria for assessing organisational performance and effectiveness.
Syllabus:
Syllabus includes: Nature of organisational effectiveness; importance of effective management in contributing to improvements in organisational performance; assessing organisational performance; the learning organisation, total quality management and business process re-engineering; management education, training and development approaches.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module will be taught in both interactive workshop based format and by distance learning. While based on essential academic theories, concepts and techniques there will also be significant focus afforded to individual personal development allied with the practical application of learning within the workplace.
