Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
Within the context of global politics, macroeconomic forces, rampant consumerism and diverging stakeholder interests, the impetus to create and deliver responsible innovation is a complex and multifaceted challenge. Through critical reflection, students scrutinize and evaluate key dimensions of responsible, social, and mission-oriented innovation and examine how these are linked to real-world research and innovation practices. Students will apply creative thinking to devise social innovation solutions for implementation in an enterprise setting.
Syllabus:
Content will examine: responsible innovation as disruption; drivers and constraints of sustainable/responsible innovation; corporate and entrepreneurial strategies for sustainable and responsible innovation; mission-oriented innovation; sustainability and green innovation; research as innovation; design thinking; innovation implementation strategies; innovation communication and collaboration.
Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Critically reflect on the dominant and emerging paradigms of innovation and enterprise, including their effect on the social and natural environment.
• Examine context specific challenges of delivering responsibility within innovation environments considering the geographical, organisational, industrial, and societal perspectives.
• Investigate opportunities for responsible innovation in complex, volatile or ambiguous contexts.
• Formulate innovative solutions for enterprise that remedy internal and external strategic challenges.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Reflect upon the normative aspects of change management and business innovation systems in navigating and communicating complex sustainability challenges

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module will be delivered through a combination of methods including interactive lectures and experiential workshops. Focus will be placed on a practical and action-based approach to learning. Examples of successful integration of responsible and social innovation in enterprise will be examined via cases and guest seminars. Graduate attributes will be developed in the following ways: Students are expected to be proactive in their own learning and agile in their response to new insights and opportunity-recognition. Students will clearly articulate their ideas during class discussions, presentations, and written coursework. They will apply critical and creative thinking skills to devise novel and impactful (courageous) enterprise ideas. By engaging with industry experts and case studies they will develop a sense of curiosity about mission-oriented and responsible innovation in industry.
