Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is a key part of the HCI funded UL@Work initiative. UL@Work aims to develop digital, Industry 4.0, talent through flexible, innovative, and technology-enabled, experiential learning; bringing enterprise expertise into education, and education into the workplace to form a co-designed future learning environment. According to Coley et al (2017) the demand for professionals who have both a wealth of knowledge in one system and the ability to perform cross-disciplinary collaboration is currently growing in importance in today's workforce. As a key component to achieving this aim, this module provides students with a structure for documenting and reflecting upon their assumptions, understandings, and experiences. Participants will be guided in the organisation of a series of future facing industry relevant talks on the technology and the future of markets and society more broadly. Participants will work collaboratively to identify key trends impacting their field/discipline and create and use their professional network to reach out to key thought leaders in this space.
Syllabus:
This module provides learners with an opportunity to demonstrate independent and self-determined learning through the creation of their individual portfolio. The module will include a thought leadership seminar series that the learners will curate and co-create. Themes for the seminars will student led and revolve around the future focused topics relevant across sectors, for example: future skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, sustainability, creativity, digital economy & new value creation, future of work, future of computing, business of data, unlocking big data, ethical decision making, digital transformation, digital inclusion & opportunity, policy making, and frontier technologies.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1) Demonstrate an ability to design and coordinate industry relevant, public facing webinars related to the Technology and Market/Work Futures.
2) Identify and select key trends and themes of concern across disciplinary and functional boundaries.
3) Demonstrate critical reflection on their key learning goals and achievements.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1) Acknowledge the contribution of individual disciplines and the disciplinary perspectives of other team members in addressing complex, transdisciplinary problems.
2) Display a professional commitment to multi-disciplinary team work.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The programme will be delivered fully online. Students will experience a supportive and dynamic learning environment in which there will be an emphasis on peer learning, team learning, critical reflection, and feedback. Students will be organised into cross disciplinary agile teams and supported in the organisation and delivery of a thought-leader future focused seminar series. Students will be graded based on the 1) planning, organisation, and delivery of seminars, 2) engagement with seminars run by their colleagues, 3) critical reflection on their competence development. The module supports the development of all 6 graduate attributes: KNOWLEDGEABLE: Students develop critical thinking as they distil theory into practice through identifying tools and techniques suitable for their context. PROACTIVE: Students will lead on the planning, organisation and delivery of a high profile thought leadership seminar event, working as cross disciplinary agile teams. CREATIVE: Students develop their problem solution, which requires them to integrate existing knowledge in a new way. RESPONSIBLE: Students manage their own competence development, including the design, delivery of external facing seminar series. COLLABORATIVE: Students will be supported in working in cross disciplinary, cross programme teams. Collaborative ways of working will be a key learning outcome and will be subject to assessment. ARTICULATE: Students develop the ability to communicate challenging, academic and technical concepts to a variety of audiences, academic, strategic, operational inside and outside their enterprise and/or disciplinary setting.
