Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module forms part of Professional Diploma in Strategic Leadership.
The focus is on strategic leadership in action, where students examine the tools and techniques needed within leadership roles. Applying leadership theory within a variety of organisational contexts. This module provides a deeper understanding of digital transformation in organisations from a change management perspective. The basic premise of this module is that the degree and pace of change can be accelerated during digital transformation. Students need to understand the theoretical underpinnings, models and management practices of effective change management, to ensure agile organisations.
Syllabus:
This module focuses on stimulating students to critically reflect the challenges and complexity of on-going strategic leadership in action. It seeks to examine the theoretical models of change management and effective change interventions on the roadmap of change. It keenly differentiates the difference between change management and change leadership. Furthermore it actively engages students to develop the skills in proven approaches to the management of strategic leadership in both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations working within the context of digital transformation. Students will examine the following topics within the module; Setting Direction; Resource Alignment; Leadership influence; Leadership Negotiation; Leadership Persuasion; Strategic Decision Making; Change Management; Organisational Transformation; Digital Transformation; Organisational Renewal; Organisational Agility; Project Leadership; Performance Metrics
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Critically evaluate key theories of the of strategic business leadership and their importance in today's organisation.
• Identify and critically evaluate the key areas of organisational decision making change, and strategic business leadership.
• Critically analyse the impact of internal factors (e.g. perceptual biases, emotion, leadership, and politics) on organisational change.
• Display a critical understanding of the role of the factors that drive organisational change.
• Assess the reasons why individuals might resist change and show strong evidence of being able to explain strategies for dealing with resistance.
• Synthesise the main challenges to effective strategic business leadership in organisational transformation.
• Recognise the role of leadership in projects and evaluate the nature of project leadership in relation to project effectiveness. • Propose leadership solutions to complex scenarios, and defend solutions providing rationale behind decision making.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
• Awareness and appreciation for the complexity around strategic business leadership in organisations.
• Actively engage in debate/discussion of change related topics in a critical and challenging manner.
• Appreciate and value the changing nature of work in a digital era and, its implications for employees, managers and organisations.
• Appreciate the leadership approaches that can be adopted to realise project objectives.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module will be taught using a range of methods including lectures, online platforms (including e-tivities, VLEs and Social media platforms), role-plays, psychological simulations, teamwork activities and presentations. Graduate attributes will be developed in the following ways: Knowledgeable: Students will gain a deep knowledge of change management and transformation through lectures, on-line activities, role-plays, psychological simulations, teamwork activities and presentations; Proactive: Students are expected to be proactive in their own learning through independent study and self-directed learning; Responsible: Students will develop a sense of responsibility through class discussions on various ethical issues involved change management and digital transformation; Collaborative: Students will be required to participate in class discussions and group work; Articulate: Students will become articulate in discussing leadership through the use of in-class discussions, presentations and written coursework.
