Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The purpose of this module is to develop professional communication competencies essential for contemporary business leadership. By integrating communication theory with practical application, students learn to critically analyse and address complex business communication challenges. The module responds to industry demands for professionals who can navigate sophisticated communication environments, build effective professional networks, and demonstrate advanced interpersonal skills. Understanding how communication theory informs professional practice enables students to make evidence-based decisions in their communication strategies, while practical skill development in areas such as active listening, emotional intelligence, and network building prepares them for leadership roles in diverse business contexts.
Syllabus:
This module develops advanced communication competencies essential for modern business professionals. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and practical applications, students will enhance their understanding of professional communication. The module emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application of communication principles in professional contexts.

Learning Experience
The module adopts an experiential learning approach where theoretical foundations are immediately applied to practical scenarios. Students engage in a blend of:
- Interactive workshops incorporating current business communication challenges
- Reflective practice through structured reflection activities
- Peer learning through collaborative projects
- Investigation of evolving professional networking practices
- Consideration of new media impact on business communication
Recent research in business communication, particularly in areas of digital transformation, remote team dynamics, and cross-cultural communication, is integrated through weekly readings and in-class discussion. This is a seminar / workshop format; the three-hour format allows for a traditional lecture followed by interactive discussions, workshop activities, and in-class exercises. It also enables peer learning and presentations within the weekly class.
Learning Environment: The module creates a transformative learning experience by integrating current research in professional communication, emotional intelligence, and network theory with challenge-driven activities where students collaborate to solve communication problems. As an international group, an understanding of culture and communication is embedded in the class context. This research-informed, experiential approach encourages cross-disciplinary thinking as students draw insights from communications, cultural studies, and business studies to develop their communication skills.
