Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module provides a high level perspective in developing organisation goals and objectives and translating these into portfolio and programmes aims and objectives. It shows how project and programme baseline models are developed and demonstrates the adaptation and integration of tracking and control systems used to monitor and control progress throughout project and programme lifecycles. It introduces enterprise level project and programme governance structures and procedures that provide an overall framework for project and programme delivery mechanisms aimed at delivering sustainable business benefits.

Syllabus:

Project and programme lifecycle models, setting objectives, goal directed planning and control systems, formulation and organisation, deployment and appraisal, processes tools and techniques, contemporary project and programme planning and control systems, agile project management; governance frameworks, structures and processes; stakeholder analysis, capturing requirements, identifying value creation opportunities; setting programme pace, developing milestones, conducting reviews and providing feedback; enterprise resource planning, analysing resource needs, acquiring resources, resource levelling and resource optimising; developing programme level communication plans and reporting to various stakeholders and sponsors; estimating costs and durations, dealing with uncertainty, risk management processes, contingency planning; enterprise quality systems, quality assurance, managing supply chain partners; information systems and enabling technologies.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Synchronous and asynchronous methods will be used to deliver the module. This module will make extensive use of case examples, group assignment work and group presentations to prepare students for the in-company project in the summer semester. They will have access to all materials through a Learner Management system, specifically written for the remote learner. Students will be expected to participate in on-line interactions and engage with fellow learners and tutors through this system, feedback on their learning will be provided on an ongoing basis and students will be able to track their own personal development throughout the programme.
