Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

This module is designed to assist individuals understand the core concepts of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship and discuss their organisational roles in the context of organisational success To provide an understanding of the entrepreneur and the nature of entrepreneurship. To increase awareness and understanding of the process involved in initiating and managing a new business enterprise To enable students to acquire the principal techniques, analytical and decision-making skills necessary to create and explore new venture opportunities To encourage creative, innovative and enterprising behaviour.

Syllabus:

The entrepreneur and entrepreneurship defined, the nature of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, schools of thought on entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial process, recognising opportunities and generating ideas, creativity techniques, building a new venture team, assessing a new ventures strength and viability, business planning, the challenges of growth, criteria for success, business failure, strategies for emerging ventures.

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

The anticipated learning outcomes are as follows: • Describe the core concepts of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship and discuss their organisational roles in the context of organisational success • Understand the role of creativity and innovation and apply creativity techniques with a view to generating new venture ideas in a complex international business environment • Enhance key business skills in areas such as opportunity recognition skills; strategic analysis and external environment evaluation; management and leadership • Refine analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills in core business functions while refining self-managed learning skills including reflection, questioning, time management and prioritisation

The anticipated learning outcomes are as follows: • Illustrate awareness and understanding of the process involved in initiating, and planning a new business venture • Increase self-awareness of entrepreneurial capabilities and the role of key decision maker and change agent in an organisation

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

The module will be delivered by lecture, on block release, with a significant amount of student group work taking place between blocks. Graduate attributes will be developed in the following ways: Knowledgeable: Students will gain a deep knowledge of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship through exposure to theory, practice and critical reflective analysis; Proactive: Students are expected to be proactive in their own learning through independent study and self-directed learning; Responsible: Students will develop a sense of responsibility through class discussions, guest speakers, and coursework; Collaborative: Students will be required to participate in class discussions and group work; Articulate: Students will become articulate in expressing innovation and entrepreneurial advice through the use of in-class discussions, presentations and written coursework.
