Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module provides students with the opportunity to devise and deliver a small-scale Performing Arts-related project. Students engage in independent learning, choosing learning objectives and outcomes that are based on their personal interests, strengths and learning goals. The active nature of this self-directed learning optimises their educational experience.
Syllabus:
In consultation with a mentor/teacher, the student devises and implements a Performing Arts-based project that may have one or more of the following outcomes: an academic paper, a performance or a portfolio of compositions (presented in various formats).
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Identify an appropriate research topic Establish and analyse research materials Develop understanding of autonomous learning. Demonstrate organisational skills in context of an artistic and other projects. Construct creative responses to performative, academic and multidimensional research questions. Select appropriate critical tools for evaluation
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Synthesize feedback Respond reflexively as a project develops Embrace ethical research and performance based practices
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: Refine motor skills appropriate to sound-based and/or movement-based artistic practices within the context of self-directed research.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
Under the guidance of the mentor/teacher, the individual student decides what and how they will learn (Curious-self-directed learning). In consultation with the mentor/teacher, the student determines the focus, scope, design and outcomes of the project to be undertaken (Agile: co-operative learning experiences, authentic assessments). Each student chooses learning objectives and outcomes that are based on their personal interests, strengths and learning goals (Courageous: presenting challenges that require creative solutions, authentic learning experiences). Students will explore multidisciplinary models for research outputs (Articulate: use different media and different formats to articulate their understanding) Self structured time management (Responsible).
