Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

To provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in 1. Developing skills in independent work as a music therapist 2. Providing weekly regular clinical work to clients in a health, welfare, community or education setting 3. Learning in context to apply the framework of assessment, programme planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting

Syllabus:

In consultation with the Course Director students will develop an independent programme of clinical work at an approved site up to two days per week. This fieldwork practice will be supervised through individual and group sessions based at the university. In this fieldwork placement students will develop competencies in programme development within an existing service, and in planning and leading sessions with music therapy clients. Students will gain information about the role of the facility in addressing needs of clients and will identify and promote the role of music therapy within the broader operational remit of the facility.

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

1. Understand the requirements of independent music therapy practice 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of service users in the fieldwork context and their families 3. Develop knowledge of the nature of the multidisciplinary team and the potential role of the music therapist within the team 4. Develop skills in planning and reporting regular clinical work

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

1. Use regular supervision to reflect on strengths and weaknesses as a developing clinician 2. Reflect on ethical issues in the fieldwork context

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

1. Provide weekly therapy services in a health, educational or welfare/community setting 2. Develop and implement appropriate assessment and evaluation procedures for use in the fieldwork context

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Independent clinical fieldwork placement, supervision with qualified music therapist.
