Prerequisite Modules:

Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

Nursing is primarily a practice-based professions whereby knowledge is both generated from and applied to practice. Clinical practicum 1 facilitates the consolidation, integration and application of theory within practice. The module includes a theoretical and practical element and incorporates Clinical Contact time completed by students as part of their normal working hours across the academic year as a requirement to complete a Nursing Specialist level 9 Programme. Within the theoretical component students consider the six domains of professional nursing practice (NMBI, 2016) and the core concepts of specialist practice (NCPDNM, 2008). Through practice-based preceptorship students gain the opportunity to develop clinical competence within their specialist practice environment at an advanced beginner level. The inclusion of this module takes cognisance of the recommendations of the nursing professional and regulatory body (NMBI), and this module is linked to Clinical Practicum 2 (NS6402).
