Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
Syllabus:
Public health concerns of the 21st Century, Lifestyle diseases and the science behind lifestyle redesign. Needs assessment and problematiques (Foucault). Occupational storytelling, Occupational story making and Hermeneutics. The concept of Habit. Lifestyle redesign for variety of people.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
Students will appreciate 21st century public health concerns and the importance of these to current and future occupational therapy practice.
Students will understand and critique the impact of lifestyle on health.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
Students will evaluate their professional performance and identify their future learning needs.
Students will demonstrate their professional skills and interactions to a level that reflects the competencies of a new practitioner.
Students will value contributions of others.
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
Students will demonstrate professional skills and practice knowledge to design lifestyle redesign programmes.
Students will communicate effectively to facilitate and sustain change processes.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module is taught using blended learning. It is taught in a block format over 5 weeks. Recent research on the link between occupation and health is the platform for students to enable change through occupation as related to lifestyle.
