Module Code - Title:
OT6111
-
THE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF HUMAN PERFORMANCE
Year Last Offered:
2025/6
Hours Per Week:
Grading Type:
N
Prerequisite Modules:
Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is being created to increase the Credits of Module OT6071 which has 66 hours of direct contact and completion of the assignment requires significant student endeavour beyond these contact hours. The module includes teaching at MSc level on anatomy, physiology and a range of musculoskeletal conditions alongside Occupational Therapy interventions including splinting and self-management interventions. 12 credits more adequately reflects the student endeavour required by this module and brings this module into line with other modules on the program that have 60+ hours of direct contact / teaching.
Syllabus:
For students to understand, integrate and apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to human performance. Overview of the role of occupational therapy in assessing the needs of individuals where physical dysfunction impacts on health, quality of life and occupational performance. Review key pathological processes and states including for example trauma, rheumatology and orthopaedics
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of the uniqueness and autonomy of individuals
2. demonstrate knowledge of a range of conditions, their cause and course.
3. examine a range of treatment modalities.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will:
1. Gain confidence in occupational therapy's potential contribution to issues of health and well-being
2. Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to human performance
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate professional communication skills working with peers
2. Assess individual's occupational performance needs as a result of physical dysfunction
3. Plan, implement and evaluate appropriate treatment to meet identified occupational needs
4. Conduct appropriate risk assessment
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module is taught using a mix of lecture, labs & practical seminar to enable the application of theory into practical use.
