Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The aim of this module is to introduce methods for communication of design solutions useful during several phases of the design process: development of form, functionality and final solution. On completion of the module, students will be competent visual storytellers.
Syllabus:
• Visualisation of design form
• Communication of design function
• Photography of products in context
• Digital editing of images
• Fundamentals of graphic design
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Visualise 3D product design ideas in 2D space.
• Communication of complex design function and design narratives.
• Contextualise products in environments of use.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Appreciate the impact of good design communication.
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Utilisation of design visualisation software.
• Effective use of photography.
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module will be taught through project based assignments in a computer studio. Tutor demonstrations along with peer critiques, discussion groups and project work underpin the experiential learning approach.
