Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the Human Resource Development (HRD) process at work, and to enable them to design learning, training and development programmes for all types of organisations. Theoretically, the module focuses on the strategic importance of learning and development for sustainable organisational and individual success, using evidence-based practice and supported by relevant empirical evidence. Practically, it focuses on developing specific, transferable knowledge and skills required to design learning, training and development programmes across a variety of workplaces.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module will be delivered via weekly lectures and tutorials. The lectures and linked learning resources on Brightspace provide students with a framework for evaluating the contribution that human resource development can make to organisational functioning and for reflecting on the role that the HR practitioner plays in this scenario.
Through active and interactive lectures, as students participate in the weekly discussions, individual and team exercises and question/answer sessions and share experiences, thoughts and opinions on the topics being reviewed, students will be encouraged to convey their ideas, and to become articulate (strong inter and intra-personal skills, empathetic, collaborative) and responsible (personally, socially, professionally, sustainably and ethically responsible).
Typically, students will undertake a group-based case study or activity to develop several professional practice and personal skills, including the analysis and identification of learning needs, the identification and matching of learning needs with learning/training solutions, the design of creative learning and development interventions, and the development of evaluation instruments to investigate the effectiveness of training and development interventions; encouraging students to become articulate (strong inter and intra-personal skills, empathetic, collaborative).
Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge relating to organisational processes, functions and structures and to analyse problems and suggest learning strategies to overcome them. Thus, students will also have the opportunity to develop the UL graduate attributes of curious (problem-solver, critical, knowledgeable, inquisitive, imaginative), and agile (open-minded, independent, adaptive, flexible, responsive in actions).
