Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
Effective management of human resources is increasingly recognized as a critical success factor for organisations. This is especially so as many organisations operate in a globalised environment and consequently Human Resource Management (HRM) operates in an international/global environment. Key areas of HRM include recruitment, selection, performance and productivity management, Equity and diversity management, rewards, and engagement. Contemporary concerns include the alignment of human aspects of the business to environmental and work sustainability and the implications of digitalisation and AI. This module is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to HRM, horizontal and vertical alignment with other aspects of the organisation and key processes and policies.
Syllabus:
Introduction to HRM within national and international contexts; Recruitment and Selection; performance and productivity management; equity, inclusion and diversity; Rewards; international HRM; digitalisation AI and HRM; Sustainability and HRM. CPD and HRM
Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate the centrality of HRM to organisation success in a local and global context
2. Analyse the links between organisation strategy and HR
3. Distinguish the key areas of HR policy
4. Evaluate the impact of contemporary developments on HRM and people within organisations
5. Ascertain the relationship between key processes of HRM to each other and to business Strategy

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the contribution of diversity and inclusion to organisation effectiveness
2. Display a committment to championing sustainability/sustainable work in the domain of HRM and organisational practice
3. Show how they will adhere to ethical practice in respect of their role in managing people within organisations
Psychomotor (Physical Skills)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module will comprise lectures, seminars, guest lectures, and may incorporate within class simulations and reflective practice. This will normally take place during the final hour where a more discursive, practical approach will be taken on the particular weeks topic. For weeks 3, 7 and 10 the lecture times will be given over to practical workshops led by the lecturer. One week's lecture times will be given over to group consultation times with the lecture where each group will receive advance feedback on their prep for their assignment centred around selecting for the case study company. The lectures in general will incorporate research findings around the key themes of the module drawing from national and international sources and research conducted by the department of Work and Employment Studies. Students will have the opportunity to engage in critical decision making relating to selection, performance and reward in a fictional or simulated case company and will consider sustainability from the point of view of work, employment and globalisation. These aspects of the module allow the students develop the graduate attributes of curiosity, responsibility and being articulate.
