Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
This module is designed to provide students with an understanding of the learning and development process at work, and to enable students to design learning, training and development interventions and programmes for all types of organisations. Theoretically, the module focuses on the strategic importance of learning and development to organisational success (how learning and development can help an organisation and its employees achieve their goals), as well as on an understanding of learning theory (the ways in which people learn). Practically, this module focuses on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) required to design learning, training, and development interventions programmes in the workplace - KSAs required of all types of managers, organisational psychologists, HR professionals, change agents, business owners, consultants, and educators. The overarching goal of the module is to equip students with specific, transferable skills for a variety of roles in private, public, and community sectors.

3. Identify the value of L&D for individuals and organisations

6. Explain their understanding of Instructional Design System models, including the process of L&D cycle and the ADDIE model
7. Apply an ISD model to the work context, and in doing so: a)Delineate a successful learning environment at work; b)Design an onboarding programme, which includes a critical appraisal of both ISD models and learning theory to inform choices on design, delivery, and evaluation and c Write a professional business report for distribution among organisational decision-makers

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The learning environment is designed so that student participants develop specific knowledge, skills and attitudes, while also encouraging the advancement of new knowledge, rediscovery of prior knowledge, and participation in critical discussion and debate. We adopt a student-centered approach to learning, and champion research-led and applied teaching strategies, e.g., the Case Method, simulations, and future focused systems thinking exercises.
The UL graduate attributes of "agile", "responsible", "articulate", "courageous", and "curious" will be delivered upon through a combination of personal immersion in lectures, peer learning, individual and group projects, sustainable intervention design, self-reflection and personal development, and sustainability advocacy.
This module will be delivered over the course of twelve weeks using both "asynchronous" and classroom-based learning. Each week, videos, recommended and required readings and/or other learning materials will be uploaded to the learning management system (Brightspace). This material is "asynchronous", which means that students can access this material in their own time, and at their own pace. It is expected that students will have reviewed and studied this weekly material before they attend face-to-face lectures and workshops. Face-to-face lecture and workshops happen in real time, in the classroom, every week. Students will participate in the weekly discussions, exercises and question/answer sessions and share experiences, thoughts and opinions on the topics being reviewed.
