Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
To cover the main paradigms, concepts, issues, and debates in the core areas of cognitive psychology and developmental psychology.
To develop students' research and data analysis skills, specifically through in class discussion and coursework.
Syllabus:
This module is the second of two which provide coverage of the main paradigms, concepts, issues, and debates within the core areas of psychology. The section detailing developmental psychology will cover the main theoretical approaches to the study of human development from prenatal and childhood biological development to theories of socio-emotional development across the lifespan. The section on cognitive psychology will cover the basic cognitive models of memory and thinking. The key debate of the utility and limitations of the metaphor of 'the brain as information processor' will be common to both areas.

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Describe and apply theoretical understanding to cognitive and developmental psychology to human behavior.
2. Outline the strengths and weaknesses of cognitive and developmental theories in psychology

2. Value the strengths of research methods for understanding cognitive and developmental psychological research

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
The module(research informed) will be an e-learning module; delivered online via lectures and breakout rooms. It will have independent reading, debates and lecture formats which will instill knowledge, encourage creativity, collaboration through online forums and group work. Students will learn about taking responsibility for their own learning through independent reading and enhanced articulation through their assessments
