Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The aim for this module on professional skills is to develop your professional communication skills by using a number of different approaches. The primary aim is to develop students' own writing and associated technical skills, as well as other relevant skills related to writing in psychology. The module also aims at critiquing the work of others as well as giving and receiving feedback.
Syllabus:
In order to successfully communicate research, students need to train their writing skills. This module aims to improve students writing skills by means of giving good examples for writing styles and by giving students feedback on their writing skills. Consistent with the purpose of the module, it is intensive in writing.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Recognise the quality of writing styles and how they contribute to the overall quality of a manuscript.
Classify writing styles as a function of the type of manuscripts (e.g., book chapter vs. journal article, theoretical vs. applied article).
Develop the structure of a manuscript.
Apply and revise writing styles when writing a manuscript.
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Acknowledge that writing styles influence the comprehensibility of manuscripts and that some writing styles are better than others for particular types of manuscript.
Value the importance of good writing styles.
Feel confident in using different writing styles for different types of manuscripts.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
This module combines theoretical and practical education of writing skills. Online lectures will give students overviews to particular writing practices. In online tutorials, students will practice their writing skills. Students will also have to exercise their writing skills in three written assignments. These strategies and tasks will aid students in their development of the Graduate Attributes of Curious, Agile, Responsible, and most of all Articulate.
