Rationale and Purpose of the Module:
The aim of this module is to provide students with a broad introduction to the role of digital technologies in mental health related to research and evidence-based practice. This module will introduce topics related to digital diagnostic tools, digital phenotyping, digital interventions, and the role of artificial intelligence in the future of digital mental health.
Syllabus:
The module will provide a valuable introduction to the role of digital technologies in mental health related to research and evidence-based practice. This module will focus on topics including but not limited to digital diagnostic tools, digital phenotyping, digital interventions, ethical considerations of using digital health technologies, and service user perspectives in the co-creation of digital health technologies. The module will also provide experiential learning in digital phenotyping - moment-by-moment quantification of the individual-level data in situ using data from personal digital devices.
Learning Outcomes:
Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Describe the use of digital technologies for the detection, assessment, and treatment of mental health problems
2. Critically evaluate the ethical considerations of using digital mental health technologies
3. Apply digital mental health tools to monitor well-being
Affective (Attitudes and Values)
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Value the importance of digital mental health resources in supporting mental well-being
2. Demonstrate an appreciation of the role of service user perspectives and collaboration in the co-creation and evaluation of digital technologies for mental health

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:
There are two dimensions to the delivery of this module: lectures and tutorials. Typically, the first two hours of the lecture will be delivered in seminar format to introduce students to theoretical underpinnings and evidenced-based research surrounding digital mental health technologies. The final hour of the weekly lecture will be delivered in a tutorial format to give students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and skills in a practical way that support the achievement of learning outcomes. Tutorials will involve elements of didactic teaching, activities and interactive group work (UL graduate attributes: articulate, curious, agile). In addition, learning will take place through guided and independent reading, and summative assessments (UL graduate attributes: responsible, resilient).
